2007 PLANET COMPETITION Back to Undergraduate Happenings Page
American Landscape Contractor's Association
WOW, what a great time Team Tennessee had at Michigan State University with the 31st Annual PLANET Student Career Days. Fourteen students made the trip north to test themselves while competing against 53 other universities and almost 800 students, try to find the perfect job or internship, and squeeze in some socializing. Competing in 22 events, UT was well represented and proved once again our students can compete with any in the country.
Individual successes included Michael Flessner who took 2nd out of 44 students and 5th out of 71 in two different events. He was a total of 7 points from winning both events. He finished overall in 50th place out of the nearly 800 competitors. Nathan Oliver finished 78th overall giving the Team two in the top 10% of the country’s competitors. John Carney took 5th out of 51 in one of his events, 1 point from winning it all. We had three other individual top ten finishes to continue our excellent national RepUTation.
On the employment side, we had a total of eight internship or full-time position offers to our students. All told there were 110 Green Industry companies from all across the country. What terrific exposure for our students!
Next year in Atlanta we expect even greater results and opportunities. Before even returning to campus, the Team was already busy planning on taking home some trophies.
