Dr. Thompson is responsible for coordinating statewide extension education programs in corn, soybean and grain sorghum production. Current projects are ongoing in areas of: 1. Hybrid and Variety Testing- Corn, soybean and grain sorghum yield testing is conducted in counties to complement experiment station yield results across Tennessee. 2. Weed management- Focus is volunteer cotton control and management of glyphosate resistant horseweed. 3. Cropping systems and fertility- Variable rate liming is being evaluated for effect on soybean production and economic feasibility will be considered. Integrated pest management- Work includes insecticide seed treatment demonstrations for control of soil insects with focus on control of sugarcane beetle in corn.
