PUBLIC HORTICULTURE CONCENTRATION What is public horticulture?
Public horticulture covers a broad range of specialties and professions. Our program focuses on preparing students for careers in the following specialties. For some specialties, the curricular plan involves obtaining a minor in a second department, to gain particularly strong academic preparation:
Education: One of the main focuses of public horticuluture is education. Students is this specialty study application of horticulture to the fields of early childhood development, adult education, and interpretative horticulture:
- Early childhood development
- Adult education
- Horticultural interpretation
Urban Horticulture: Parks, zoos, cities and counties, and campuses often employ full-time horticulturists. Estate gardening is also becoming an important career choice for our graduates.
