Katie Steinhoff

B.S. - Ornamental Horticulture & Landscape Design, 2001
Area of emphasis: Woody ornamentals

M.S. - Plant Sciences, 2003
Area of emphasis: Woody ornamentals

Katie is the curator for the gardens, natural areas and trail heads at Callaway’s Discovery Center. The Discovery Center is the front door to Callaway Gardens, with information center, education department and a landscape reflecting the core mission of integrating man with nature. These gardens include native trees and shrubs, an aquatic and bog garden, native cut-flower garden, and a new backyard bird habitat garden. Katie assists with educational programs and volunteer training.

“While my course of work at The University of Tennessee mostly focused on educating and information management through websites and databases, it has been rewarding to work in the gardens and have instant feedback and interaction with the guests as they explore the gardens and trails at Callaway.” As part of her training in graduate school, Katie developed an important online resource for the Department of Plant Sciences course in woody plant identification.
