Michael Petty Michael Petty, Architectural Designer
Upon graduation from our landscape design program in fall 2007, Michael became a full-time architectural designer for Barge Waggoner Sumner and Cannon in Oak Ridge. BWSC is a 400-person professional services firm with twelve offices spread across the eastern half of the U.S.
 
Lee Ivy, Associate Professor of Landscape Gardening
After receiving his bacjelor's degree in our landscape design concentration, Lee began teaching at Sandhills Community College, Pinehurst, North Carolina. He is currently an associate professor in Sandhill's Landscape Gardening Department.

Puryear Farms John Puryear, Owner of Puryear Farms
John graduated in 1989 from our former Department of Ornamental Horticulture & Landscape Design. He then started his own nursery and landscaping business, Puryear Farms, which has grown to the point that he now has about 50 employees. More >>
 
Beth Hancock, Design Consultant
Beth graduated with a bachelor's degree from our landscape program in fall semester of 2007. Her position with Stanley's Greenhouses in Knoxville, where she performed her internship, then became full-time, as a design consultant.

Jon Brewer Jon Brewer, Landscape Business Owner
Jon is the owner of Legacy Lawn and Landscapes in Lawrenceburg, TN. Jon started the business about two years before entering our landscape design program as a freshman. Learning the design aspects from our three landscape architects encouraged him to expand his business and go full-time with it after graduating with his bachelor's degree.
 
Brock McDaniel, Enhancement Accounts Specialist
Brock graduated with a bachelor's degree in our program in 2006, majoring in landscape design. He took a job with Valley Crest Companies in Destin, FL, as Enhancement Accounts Specialist, where he works on designs for big hospitals, hotels and resort communities.

Valerie Friedmann Valerie Friedmann, Landscape Designer
Valerie accepted a position at Bullock Smith & Partners in Knoxville after graduating in the spring of 2007. Valerie's entered the UT Exhibition of Undergraduate Research and Creative Achievement competition that spring and won one of the college awards for creative achievement.

Many of our bachelor's graduates go on to pursue a masters degree in landscape architecture (MLA). After receiving his bachelor's in 2007, Bullard entered the graduate progam at Ohio State Univesity.

Justin Franks Justin Franks , Landscape Design & Sales
Justin graduated in the spring of 2006 and took a lucrative job in landscape design and estimating for the Plant Ranch in Dixon, Tennessee. He then formed his own landscaping company, Alternative Landscapes & Lawn Care. In Justin's words, "My education from UT has been priceless. I can bid, design, install, and maintain with the best that Nashville has to offer."

After receiving his bachelor's degree in 2006, Bill began working for the Russell Landscape Group, in Dacula, Georgia. An Atlanta landscape contractor for over a decade, Russell Landscape Group, Inc. is routinely listed in the Top 20 commercial and residential landscapers.

John Deere Landscapes Kim Anders, Landscape Design & Sales
Kim received her bachelor's degree in landscape design in 2005. She then moved to Florida to accept a Direct Sales position with John Deere Landscapes, in Jupiter, FL. [Note: Kim is also a heck of a baseball player]
 
Lindsay Martin, Horticulturist
Lindsay was the top graduate (top GPA) in the College of Agricultural Sciences & Natural Resources in fall semester 2005. In her first position after leaving school, she went to work for Out of Eden Nursery & Garden Center in Maryville, Tennessee.

Hamilton Farm Golf Club Ryan Newell, Horticulturist
Just out of college, Ryan became a landscape division manager for Hamilton Farm Golf Club. In his 1st year, his work received national exposure on the July 4th weekend on CBS with their Ladies Match Play World Tournament. Ryan is responsible for the grounds at the front entrance, clubhouse, 65 room mansion, and US Equestrian Team.  More >>

Ted received a masters degree in landscape design, working with Sam Rogers on the Saturn Project. Ted then took the poistion of campus horticulturist of the University of Tennessee.

Aaron Riemann Aaron Riemann, Landscape Superintendent
Aaron received his bachelor's degree in landscape design in the fall of 2005. He then assumed a position as superintendent for local landscape company, Executive Lawn Care (Clinton TN). His responsibilities there include working with clients in the area of grounds management and maitenance .
 
John Watson, Owner, Landscape Firm
For over 15 years, John has owned Common Grounds Landscape Management, Inc., in Knoxville, TN. His firm serves over 200 active customers with 37 employees. John is an Ornamental Horticulture and Landscape Design graduate and a Certified Landscape Professional.

Cherie Cordell Cherie Cordell, Biological Science Technician
Science is an important component of an ornamental horticulturist's education, and some of our graduates have gone on to careers that emphasize plant biology. Cherie obtained a B.S in ornamental horticulture in 1997 and went on to work in the nearby Great Smoky Mountains National Park.  More>>

Brad received his bachelor's degree with us in landscape design. He went on to get an MLA degree, then went to work as a landscape architect for a very prestigious firm in Orlando, EDSA.

Andy Knight Andy Knight, Landscape Architect
Andy received his bachelor's degree with us in landscape design. He went on to get an MLA degree, then went to work as a landscape architect for John L. Carman and Assoc. in Lexington, KY.
 
Estate Gardening
Estate gardening has become an important career choice for many of our graduates. After obtaining a degree in ornamental horticulure, Bob Hendrix, Greg Miller, Ian Watson, and Roy Odom all gained horticultural emplyment as estate gardeners for private landowners owners.

Clint Olsen Clint Olsen, Garden Center Owner
Clint received his undergraduate training in landscape design in our former OHLD department. He owns The Easy Gardener Garden Center in Knoxville. In addition to garden center operations, Clint supervises several crews in implementing his and other landscape designs.
