Selection Criteria
The endowed professorship is one of the most esteemed honors in higher education. It is often an achievement that crowns an academic career, and it is an honor worthy of bearing the Don Williams name. Only an individual of the highest caliber and academic credentials, along with a commitment to teaching students, will be selected to hold this professorship. To be considered for the professorship, a candidate must meet the following criteria:
- Is a distinguished teacher--nationally known and visible in the profession and highly regarded for commitment to students
- Has a record of scholarly achievement that qualifies him/her for the rank of full professor
- Has proven research expertise with significant contributions in the area of horticulture and has the ability to obtain external funding to support his/her teaching, research, and public service responsibilities.
