Outreach: overview of projects

Agronomic Crop Variety Testing and Demonstrations

Tennessee row crop producers are faced with a wide array of choices of varieties/hybrids that will perform best in their farming operation. For example, in 2002 there were over 300 varieties/hybrids to choose from when combining corn and grain sorghum hybrids and soybean and wheat varieties available for purchase by farmers in TN. The purpose of the variety testing program is to provide producers with unbiased data on yield and agronomic traits of the varieties/hybrids so that they can make informed decisions for purchasing varieties or hybrids for their farming operation.
