12. Curves
- In imagename.psd, highlight your entire image using the Marquee Tool
- Hit Ctrl+C to copy the image
- Click to assignment_photoshop.psd
- Hit Ctrl+V to paste the image into assignment_photoshop.psd
- Use the Move Tool (circled at right) to position the layer you just created at the top of the image
- Click back to imagename.psd
- Again highlight your entire image using the Marquee Tool
- Click Image + Adjustments + Curves (Alt I-A-V) (image of Curves Pallette below)
- With the Channel set to RGB (default), use your mouse to bend the curve, adjusting the brightness/contrast
- Click Okay when satisfied with adjustment
- Hit Ctrl+C to copy the image (if it is not still highlighted, highlight it)
- Click to assignment_photoshop.psd
- Hit Ctrl+V to paste the image into assignment_photoshop.psd
- Use the Move Tool to position the layer you just created at the bottom of the image
- File Save for Web (Alt+Shft+Ctrl+S) as assignment_photoshop_curves.jpg
- FTP assignment_photoshop_curves.jpg to the photoshop_assignment subfolder in your images folder on your Web server (example of finished curves assignment file)
- Proceed to stroke
The brightness and contrast of an image can also be adjusted using Image Adjustments Brightness/Contrast (Alt I-A-C). Curves gives more flexibility and ultimately perhaps a more pleasing effect.
