March 29, 2004. In class on April 12, I will invite each of you to come to the podium and show us your site, give a progress report, tell us how you made design and content decisions, an idea of your schedule for completing the site in the remaining three weeks of the semester.

In lieu of lectures on April 19, 21 and 23, we will have Web Garage Week: individual 2-hour sessions to "tune" your sites, one-on-one.

March 15, 2004.
Saying “Yes”  Instead of “No”: Promoting the Fair Use Guidelines for Educational Multimedia.

March 15, 2004. Jerry Riehl of the ITC will guest lecture on March 15 about copyright and fair use issues (2-day reprieve for the lucky student who gets to demonstrate sidebars).

March 1 , 2004. Dr. Greg Welbaum will guest lecture in class, topic will be comparison between Blackboard and hand-built web sites for delivering online course materials. He has been teaching distance learning for 5 years and will share some observations about online vs traditional classroom learning and teaching.

Greg is also the speaker Monday afternoon for our departmental seminar: "Teaching Horticulture on the World Wide Web at Virginia Tech".
All are welcome.

February 2, 2004. Additional computer (PSB 129) now available for your use anytime.

January 28, 2004. Just in case anyone wants to see/download it, I posted online the Plants R Us practice banner demonstrated today in class.

January 22, 2004. We will meet in our usual place Friday Jan 23 (and not in HSS 201 as originally planned).

January 20, 2004. For class Wed (Jan 21) in HSS201, I will ask you to do the Adobe PhotoShop layers assignment in the lab, I can be hovering around to answer questions. Also, I have some CDRWs for you (remind me if I forget to hand them out!).

January 16, 2004. The two computers in PSB 229 are now set up so that each of you have user privileges in WindowsXP. Have I told you your password yet?! The computer for PSB 129 is still being set up; Cynthia is out for a week, should be ready during week of Jan 26. We are expanding your access to the two computers in 229: you can use the one on the phone desk anytime and the one in the corner any morning as well as Wed and Fri afternoons. Please let me know if you have ANY difficulty with ANYTHING: finding or working with your folders, using the software, etc.

January 16, 2004. No class next Monday (Jan 19). Class meets Wed (Jan 21) in HSS201.

January 15, 2004. For Profile Name: in WS_FTP, choose a name other than PS501 (which I directed you to do in 2. of the assignment). That turns out to not be a very good idea, when several of you use the same machine: profile PS501 keeps getting revised with a new userID that way. Maybe just use your netID, or any word that describes your site ("turf", "gardens", "mosh pits").

January 8, 2004. First class meeting this coming Monday, January 12, 10:10-11:00a in PBB 160.
(PBB = new Plant Biotech Bldg attached to Ellington, on the Ag Campus).

September 23, 2003. Course section number for PS 501 = 71719. If you are a student in a department other than Plant Sciences and would like to see if you can register for credit in your home department, contact me, I will check it out.
