Hamilton SW. 1995. Evaluations of Herbaceous Plants
From January 1995 through May, 750 different annual, perennial and herb species were grown in teaching and research greenhouse #14. During the last two weeks of April, selected species were transported by OHLD and planted at the WTES, TES, HRES and MTES. The week of May 1st, all 750 species were planted on the KAES. Evaluations of each species were made at each experiment station in mid July, August and September to determine species performance throughout the growing season. Evaluations included flower production, height uniformity, flower uniformity, and overall rating. Subjective ratings of Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair and Poor were used for each evaluation. Annual evaluations ceased after the middle of September while perennial flower and herb evaluations will continue through next spring to determine winter hardiness. Summaries of species evaluations were distributed to supporting seed companies as well as commercial grower meetings. |
